History
In the Upper
Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Wheeler County was formed in 1912 from
Montgomery
County. Its county seat,
Alamo, is on
US-280 about 175 miles southeast of Atlanta and 75 miles southeast of Macon. Wheeler is bordered by the counties of
Laurens, Treutlen,
Montgomery, Jeff Davis,
Telfair and Dodge.
