Monroe County
History
In the Piedmont Region of Georgia,
Monroe County was formed in
1821 as an original county from the Creek Session of 1821. Its county seat,
Forsyth, is on
I-75 about 60 miles south of Atlanta and 20 miles north of Macon. Monroe is bordered by the counties of
Butts, Jasper, Jones, Bibb,
Crawford, Upson and
Lamar.
