Records Organization & Retention
Effective March 22, 2011, we will implement the
following rules relative to record display and retention. Over
time, this will result in our archives being greatly reduced in
size since we will, in most cases, display an event only in the
Family Tree, and not in the Archives. |

Events for which a date of birth or date of death is known or
can be estimated |
Baptism
Birth
Burial
Census
Death Indexes
Draft Registration
Family Bible
Marriage
Military Service
Obituary
Will and Probate |
If
the event cannot be matched to a person in the Family Tree, then
create a new orphan person record in the Family Tree. Display
full available text in an event citation within the Family Tree,
and delete the event if it is currently in the archives. (For
census records and family bibles, transcribe info on all members of a household where a Culpepper is
present.) |
Events where the date of birth is usually not available and
is difficult to closely estimate |
City Directory
Deed
Tax Record |
Retain in the archives only if the event has not been matched to
a person in the Family Tree. If it has been matched, delete the
event from the archives and display full available text in an
event citation within the Family Tree. All pre-1850
Norfolk Co., Virginia records should also be retained in the
archives due to the difficulty in matching the names. |
Photograph |
Display photographs only in the
Family Tree, and only if the person is deceased. |
