Bordering south Georgia in the eastern Panhandle Region of Florida, Leon County was formed in 1824 from Gadsden County. Its county seat, Tallahassee, is the state capital and is on I-10 about 150 miles west of Jacksonville and 25 miles south of Thomasville, GA. Leon is bordered by the Florida counties of Jefferson, Wakulla, Liberty and Gadsden, and the Georgia counties of Thomas and Grady.
