Biography* | | According to the James Hodnett Family History (8 pages unpublished), Phebie Josephine Alsobook graduated from Women's College at Lafayette, Alabama. After the death of her husband and the marriage of her older children the history continued: With only 4 children left at home, Josephine Hodnett had a strong drive to further her education. So she left her son Lindsey Grier in charge of the farm, rented a house in Lineville, Alabama from her sister and husband Henry Jackson and moved with 3 children to Lineville. They attended Lineville College, and prepared to teach.
The following is from Nellie: "I am an Alsobrook descendant. You have made a slight mistake about Phoebe Josephine Alsobrook's sister. She married John Turner Jackson, not Henry Jackson. This is Rebecca Alsobrook's husband.2 |

Biography* | | According to the James Hodnett Family History (8 pages unpublished) by Mary Hodnett Remson Craft and Betty Welsh Farmer: William Franklin married Miss Esther Cotney and moved to Texas.... When William Frank's wife, Esther, died in Texas, leaving five small children, his mother Josephine went there by train and brought them back with her. She helped Frank rear them. She also served as a mid-wife in the community and was helpful during the typhoid and malaria epidemics. She lost William Frank and several friends at the time.
From Barbara Pinkston Barker, July 2004: William Franklin Hodnett is my maternal grandfather. My mother Leslie Lucile Hodnett Pinkston was the youngest of his children born to his second wife, Nora Luna Bishop. Nora and Frank Hodnett married about 1904; they had 2 other children, Alberta, b 27 Sep 1906 and d 3 Aug 1975 and Renzo, b sometime in either 1907 or 1908, and died in an auto accident in 1930 or 1931. My mother was b 21 Jan 1909 and d 3 Mar 1993. The names of his other children by Hester Cotney are Elizabeth (Lizzie), Zenas (b 1898), Cecil (b 5 Dec 1900 and d 29 Oct 1977) and twins, Ashley and Autrey. Also, my mother's recollection was that Frank Hodnett d 20 Nov 1914. Two of Frank Hodnett's sisters married Bishops. I wonder if these Bishops are related to my grandmother's father, James William Bishop, b about 1847 in Al and d in the late 1920s in Rising Star, Tx. Lela Pearl and Eunice Earls married Bishops; Lena Gertrude married a Welch. I know this info because of a legal document from the 1920s th! at was served on all the descendants of Frank Hodnett, when Lindsey Grier Hodnett petitioned the court to sell property left by W C Hodnett.2 |
