Birth of Son | circa 1740 | His son Willoughby Manning was born circa 1740 at Norfolk Co., Virginia. |
Research note* | 16 Feb 2016 | Regarding "(?) Manning" on the Culpepper Connections site ... The individual you have as "(?) Manning", son of William Manning (~1690-~1764), and father of Willoughby Manning (~1740-~1806), #10249 in your database, appears to have been named Matthias Manning. His wife, mother of Willoughby Manning who married Martha Culpepper, was named Margaret.
This information comes from a death record for Willoughby Manning in database calledNash County, North Carolina Vital Records Abstracts, by Cynthia Herrin, on Ancestry.com. It shows Willoughby dying in Nash County, NC, in Spring 1806; it gives a list of his children that corresponds to those shown on Culpepper Connections, along with his second wife Druscilla (last name unknown); and it shows his father as "Matthias Manning" and his mother as "Margaret".
The only discrepancy with what you already have is that you show Willoughby Manning as having been born in Norfolk county, Virginia, whereas this record has him born in Nash county, North Carolina. As I'm sure you know, death records for people who lived most of their life in a particular place often mistakenly place their birth there.
I'm dropping you this note because Rahab Manning and her husband Charles Hammonds are my 4XG-grandparents....
