Mrs. Helen Pitts Shehane, 76, formerly of LaGrange, passed away Monday, April 26, 2010, in Panama City Beach, FL, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Mrs. Shehane was born August 11, 1933, and was the daughter of the late J.C. and Minnie Hallman Pitts. She had lived most of her life in LaGrange prior to moving to Panama City Beach, FL. Mrs. Shehane had attended the Wehadkee Baptist Church and was retired from Callaway Mills/Milliken and Company. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Brad Barnes of West Point, Michelle and Darian Lesley and Nancy Carruth all of Panama City Beach, FL; sisters, Irene Norton, Frances Head, Marie McClung, and Dean Alexander; brother, Robert Pitts; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Earl Shehane; daughter, Georgette Shehane Cook Rynearson; and sister, Elizabeth Tumblin. The family will be at 95 Oak Street in the Louise Community and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 this evening. Interment will be private. Flowers will be accepted, but those desiring may contribute in memory of Mrs. Shehane to Covenant Hospice, 107 W. 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405. Culpepper III of Hattiesburg; three sons, John Marshall Culpepper (Amy) of Nashville, TN; Byron Harris Culpepper (Malise) of Memphis, TN;and Craig Fairley Culpepper (Barri) of Marietta, GA; and eight grandchildren, Virginia Witt Culpepper, Jackson Hamilton Hughes, Palmer Douglas Hughes, Caroline Dupree Culpepper, Margaret Merrill Culpepper, John Evans Culpepper, Carter Harris Culpepper, and Caitlin Davis Culpepper.1 |

In addition to his wife he is survived by his two children, Gwen Gepfert of Basking Ridge, NJ and John Randolph Gepfert IV of Fairfield, CT and their spouses and his three step-daughters Susanne Wolfel, Marcia Houghton, Julie Redman, four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mrs. Richard G. Kopff of Hartsdale, NY. Services to celebrate his life in both Jupiter, FL and South Salem, NY will be announced at a future date.1 |
