Julia Sanetimore
Female, #61351, (circa 1858 - )
Birth* | circa 1858 | She was born circa 1858 at Louisiana. |
Birth of Son | 1 Jul 1878 | Her son Thomas Marion Oglethorpe was born on 1 Jul 1878 at Catahoula Parish, Louisiana.1 |
Married Name | 14 Aug 1878 | As of 14 Aug 1878, her married name was Oglethorpe.2 |
Marriage* | 14 Aug 1878 | She married John W. Oglethorpe at Rapides Parish, Louisiana, on 14 Aug 1878.2 |
1880 Census* | 1 Jun 1880 | Julia was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census at Catahoula Parish, Louisiana.3 |
Research note | Oct 2010 | From Sue Badeaux:
There was another Oglethorpe problem that I recently partially resolved. On the 1880 Catahoula census there is listed:70 Julia Oglethorp 21 Married LA Thomas Oglethorp 1 LA Who was she? Which Oglethorpe did she marry? Where was her husband in 1880? On a printout from an old CD “LA Marriages, Rapides Parish Records 1802-1893” I found the following:
Julia Sanetimore married J. W. Oglethorpe August 14, 1878.71
This solves the problem of who Julia was but who was the J. W. that she married? Elsewhere in Catahoula in 1880 we have the entry for John Oglethorpe, 33, born in LA, a widower, living in the C. White household.72 I just do not know where to place this John with a birth year of circa 1847. There are several possibilities. Could this be the T. Oglethorpe on the 1850 census age 5, probable son of John Newman Oglethorpe and Emeline Carter? At any rate it is difficult to see him as the husband of Julia. John says he is a widower and Julia states that she was married although she was listed alone. My favorite candidate for the husband of Julia and father of Thomas is that of J., the son of Thomas Oglethorpe and Sarah Jones. That J(ohn) would have been 22 in 1878. This needs more work and a visit to the Rapides Parish Courthouse to see the original marriage certificate for any clues.2,4 |
