Obituary* | 14 Aug 2007 | Toye Fillyaw Cooper, 82, of Moultrie died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center from injuries received in an auto accident. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Jeremy Gray, Michael Thompson, Glen Culpepper, Howie Gray, Kurt Smith, Kyle Hiers, Chris Cooper and McKinnon Cooper. Born July 25, 1925 in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Holiday Fillyaw and Ocie Massey Fillyaw Owens. She retired from the Colquitt County Board of Education, Food Service Department, where she was associated with Stringfellow Elementary School for many years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Cooper and a daughter, Faye Smith. Survivors include two sons, Randy Cooper and wife Jo Ann of Douglas, Ga. and Ricky Cooper and wife Amie of Moultrie; four daughters, Alice Culpepper and husband Curtis of Moultrie, Joyce Gray and husband Howard of Ty Ty, Ga., Bobbie Culpepper and husband Lamar of Moultrie, Carol Weldon and husband James of Moultrie; two sisters, Maree Glass and Carolyn Glass, both of Moultrie; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Aug. 14 at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family may be contacted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Culpepper, 1727 Georgia Highway 33 South in Moultrie. Cobb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.1 |

Obituary* | 25 Oct 2007 | EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Polly Culpepper, of Evans, Ga., beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2007 at her home at Brandon Wilde. Funeral services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at Platt's Funeral Home, Belair Rd. Chapel, with Dr. Kirk Bozeman officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Polly was born in Eastanollee, Ga. on November 16, 1916 to J.S. Aderhold and Mary Ida Payne Aderhold. She graduated from Eastanollee High School in 1934 and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Georgia in 1938. She and Raymond Culpepper married in 1939 and remained devoted to each other and their family until his death on January 25, 2007. An outstanding and talented teacher, Polly taught school in Columbia County for thirty-four years. For thirty-two years she taught first grade, starting hundreds of children on their educational paths. Columbia County recognized her abilities and named her Teacher of the Year for 1973-1974. She spent all of her teaching career in Columbia County and retired from teaching after many years at Bel Air Elementary in 1979. Being a dedicated educator, she was a charter member of ADK-Alpha Epsilon Chapter, the Honor Society for Teachers. She was also a life member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She loved and valued First Baptist Church of Evans and was a loyal member of the Ladies Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Society. Polly's other passion was growing flowers and wildflowers and sharing them with friends. She was an active member of the Garden Club and the Wildflower club of the CSRA. An excellent cook, Polly was a member of the Columbia County Home Demonstration Club and published recipes in its cook book. Polly and Raymond were widely known for their outstanding vegetable garden and "the best corn and tomatoes" in Columbia County. Polly enjoyed sharing vegetables from the garden with their many friends. Their home and the famous garden was located on the property on which Brandon Wilde is presently located. Survivors include daughter Charlene Thomas and her husband Charles of Temple, Ga; three grandchildren, Chris Thomas and his Kelly of Nashville, Tenn., Jason Thomas and his wife Jennifer of Temple, Ga., and Jennifer Thomas of Athens, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-seven years, the late Raymond Culpepper of Evans, Ga; her sister, Agnes Harrison of Eastanollee, Ga; and her brother, Harvey Aderhold of Atlanta, Ga. Pallbearers will be Chris Thomas, Jason Thomas, John Baxter, Mel Fain, John Culpepper, Melbourn Lovett, and Herb Harrison.
