"I have recently come across your Culpepper Family page and found a reference to one of my family relatives, namely Alice Irene Lynsdale who married Richard Culpepper in 1907. Alice Irene was the second daughter of Herbert Lewis Swayne Lynsdale and was born on 12.04.1885. Her father and my grandfather, Albert William Jordan Lynsdale were brothers and sons of Henry Herbert Lynsdale and Harriet Swanye. Harriet was the second wife, the first one being Catherine Broadbear who died in childbirth after having 11 children. Henry Herbert kept up the tradition by having 11 children with the second wife..."
On 9 Nov 2006, June Hart added:
"The Lynsdale ancestry that I have can only be trace back to the original Lynsdale, Samuel (known at that time as Lindale). What little information we have shows that he was in the Army, having joined the 29th Dragoons in Worcester, UK in 1797, then having gone to India, married Susannah Herbert in Madras 1799.
Their fourth son was christened Henry Herbert Lynsdale, and he was born in Arcot (near Madras) , marrying Harriet Swayne at St. Marys Madras, in 1859. At one stage he is said to have had a fight with his brother (no-one named!) and changed his name to Lonsdale, but when he died in Madras on 27 Aug. 1876 he was buried as a Lynsdale.
As mentioned previously, his first child was Herbert Lewis Swayne Lynsdale born 29.7 1859 (the notes don't say where in India, so I am presuming Madras and married Charlotte Lousie O'Keefe in 1883, no details given
As you probably already know, they had three daughters, namely, Kathleen Louise born 30.12.1883, Alice Irene born 12.04.1885 and Charlotte Lousie O'Keefe born 11.11.1886 - don't know what happened there! The ref I have been given is Vol66 Pg117 if you want to look it up.1 |
