Biography* | | Mavis Pittman, Melvin Culpepper's half-sister, wrote on 5 Sep 2005: "Melvin died a Kilpatrick. Daddy never adopted him. He changed his (Melvin's) name because he raised him. I don't know who Melvin's father was at birth, just at death. Melvin was born Aug. 31, 1928 and died April 1, 1974 at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, Ala. Mary Lizzie Culpepper was his mother. She was born June 2, 1912 and died July 17, 1985 in Pike County, Ala. Melvin married Dora Langston. They divorced with no children. He later married Luvenia Minor McGuire. They had no children, but at the time of his death, they were adopting a son Ronnie, born in 1970. Melvin and Luvenia are buried together at Memory Gardens on Hwy. 280 in Phenix City, Ala."2 |
