Harold Newton Warren
Male, #48738, (29 Dec 1904 - 29 Jul 1987)
Note* | | The Warren house was at 502 South Warren in Burleson, TX. The house was originally a two story Victorian style with a cupola built by Robert N. & Adella Warren. At some time after Mr. Warren's death Mrs. Warren and daughter Mabel moved to Ft. Wor th then Cleburne at which time they rented the house to Jack & Vera Miller and their children, Whithorne, Melba & Jackie. Jack Taylor and Whithorne were close friends all their lives as were Genevieve Taylor and Melba, Shirley Taylor and Jackie . I, Genevieve, remember many happy hours playing in that house. The Millers didn't use the upstairs so the whole upstairs was our play place. The cupola was especially intriging. Harold returned to Burleson & the house to farm after his father died and he felt he could not continue at Harvard. After their marriage Melba and Harold lived there, but the house was always the property of Mrs. Warren and Mabel. They would not sell or give it to Harold. When they were first married, there was NO running water in the house. Water was obtaine d from a well and pump on the back porch. The privy was outside. Their money was very limited and only enough for one thing at a time. So they got running water in the kitchen and a bath tub with running water -- but no hot water heater or toilet . They still had to use the outside privy. The upstairs was not usable. After the children were born they desperately needed more usable space. They finally got permission from Mrs. Warren and Mabel to take the second floor off. They made one bi g living-dining room out of the entry hall, stair space and dining room. Took out the sliding doors, thus making three bedrooms with a tiny little wash basin between the children's rooms where a pocket or sliding door had been.1 |
