"Mark and his wife were members of the Turkey Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Weston, GA, and thoroughly enjoyed the foot-washing ritual observed once each year. "Mark Allanson (sic), a sergeant in the War Between the States, when home on sick leave was asked by his wife not to return to his company. He replied, "General Lee needs me. I must go." Biography* | | "William Callaway Edwards Family" From History of Webster Co. GA, 1980:
On Christmas Day 1895, William Callaway Edwards married Mattie Manelta Culpepper (Patsy) and they established their home on Bear Creek in Webster County, adjoining the farm of her parents, Mark and Anne Culpepper. "Uncle Cal" as he was affectionately known (b. 24 June 1870, d. 14 July 1952) was the son of Van and Clarissa Wiggins Edwards. An interesting story is told that when Cal was only a few days old a tornado destroyed their home and its contents. After the tornado was over the baby could not be found anywhere. When a wardrobe which had been blown over was lifted up, the baby was found snug and safe underneath.
Five children were born to Cal and Patsy: Marcus (b. 8 Oct. 1896), Clara Belle (b. 13 Aug. 1898), Mary Will (b. 7 April 1900), Stanley (b. 28 July 1902) and Gordon (b. 20 Sept. 1904). Their mother died on April 3, 1905, leaving Mr. Edwards with five small children to care for. On May 16, 1909, he married Ola Eugenia Chambers and she became a much loved "step-mother" to these motherless children. This marriage was also blessed with five children: Gene (b. 3 Feb. 1910), Arnold (b. 24 Jan. 1913), Emily (22 April 1914), Evelyn (b. 11 Feb. 1917) and Guy (b. 16 July 1921).
The Edwards family moved to Chambliss during 1904 where they operated a small farm and a grocery store. This was known as the Mt. Olive community and there was a very active church and school there. The school was consolidated with the Weston School around 1925. "Uncle Cal's Store" was the center of activity for the entire community during the week, and the churches, Mr. Olive Methodist and Turkey Creek Primitive Baptist, was the focal point on Sunday.
At this time Webster County is not home for any of the Edwards children except Mary Will who married Cecil Alston and her home is in the Centerpoint Community, but she is a resident of the Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Americus. They have three children: Sarah Goodwin, Beatrice Wheeler and Cecil Will Alston. Marcus is married to Mary Reddick and they have one child, Jack, and they all live in Dawson. Clara Belle also lives in Dawson. She has devoted her life to teaching. having spent over forty years in the school rooms of Georgia. Stanley married Margaret Fitzpatrick and he died on September 18, 1974. Gordon married Elsie Hill and they have one son, Bill, who lives in Phenix City, Alabama. Gordon died September 28, 1975. Gene (unmarried) died September 3, 1955. Arnold is married to Bonnie McDonald and they have two daughters: Mrs. Robert Wells (Linda) and Mrs. Robert Kinney (Lois). They all live in Albany. Emily is married to Henry Trussell. They live in Cuthbert and have one son, Henry III, who lives in Mobile, Alabama. Evelyn lived only one year, dying April 24, 1918. Guy gave his life for his country during World War II. His plane was shot down on June 14, 1944. None of the crew were ever heard from and they were all declared dead as of that date.

Apparently Samuel, Martha and Franklin are the children of John B. & Francis. Then the last two names, Nancy E. and James P. E., were apparently children of the elder Nancy.).

(It appears that the census taker was inconsistent with relationships above. The HH Nancy was the mother of John B. who was married to Francis. Apparently Samuel, Martha and Franklin are the children of John B. & Francis. Then the last two names, Nancy E. and James P. E., were apparently children of the elder Nancy.).
