Biography* The following obit was glued on the Family Record page of an 1874 Bible belonging to Mary Virginia ("Scrap") Cook, daughter of James Robb Cook (b 1811 d 1883 Troup Co) and Frances Emily Sterling (b 1821 d 1855 Troup Co). The obit is for Dr. Whitmel Sterling, brother of Frances and son of Wiley J. Sterling and Bethany Bonner of Troup Co. Mary Virgina Cook was a spinster and lived her last days in Columbia Co AR with my great grandfather, Thomas Sterling Cook, her nephew through her brother Sterling. The obit is as follows:

"Dr. Sterling Dead". An old and honored Citizen of Atlanta Passes to His Final Reward.

Dr. W. Sterling died at his home, corner of Luckie and Cain streets, yesterday afternoon.

The announcement will carry sorrow to many homes throughout the city, where for twenty-eight years Dr. Sterling has practiced his profession.

He came to Atlanta in 1866 from LaGrange, where he was reared from early boyhood, his birthplace being in Pike county. He leaves a wife and two children by a former marriage, W. E. Sterling of Carrollton, and Mrs. Lily Vorhees, of Atlanta, one brother, Mr. J. R. Sterling, of LaGrange, and many relatives throughout the state, besides legions of friends to mourn his loss.

Dr Sterling was a man of superior intellect and ability, though retiring and unassuming. He was a friend to the affliected, the needy and distressed, and his three score and ten years are filled with countless deeds of love and charity known only to Him who judges all. During the war he was a surgeon of distinction in the confederate army and when he came back from General Lee's surrender penniless it was to locate in Atlanta. He was a gradute of the University of the City of New York, one of the most renowned schools of that day, and was througout his professional career and intimate friend and associate, both socially and professionally, of the late Dr. Willis Westmoreland.

Arrangedments for the funeral have nott been perfected yet, but will be announced tomorrow.
