Biography* Nathaniel was listed in the 1860 census in Henry County, AL. He was one of the richest men in the county, with assets of over $14,000, which was a great sum of money in 1860. Living nearby were the Culpeppers. Nathaniel was born around 1809 or 1810 in VA, and was no doubt the Nathaniel Waterman who was listed as age 20-30, with wife 20-30, and no children, in the 1830 Princess Ann County, VA census. So he was just married in 1830. There were various Waterman wills in early Princess Ann, the earliest of which was that of Solomon Waterman in 1745. Based on similarity of given names, these early Princess Ann Co., Virginia Watermans were probably connected to the early Rhode Island / Connecticut Watermans.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Joseph and Sylvia Culpepper of Dothan; grandsons and their wives, Kim and Kenneth Culpepper of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Phil and Shelley Culpepper of Bowden, Georgia; granddaughters and their husbands, Candice and Dave Charlton of Bethesda, Maryland and Jennifer and Rowell Bernardo of Sanmateo, California, six great-grandchildren; brother, William Meredith of Phenix City; four sisters, Evelyn Culpepper of Troy, Pearl Dease of Banks, Olene Vinson of Troy and Bessie Freeman of Euless, Texas and several nieces and nephews.6
