In the Name of God Amen. I Richard Culpepper being of good and perfect memory the sixth day of April One Thousand Five Hundred Ninety Four (1 Apr 1594) do make my Last Will and Testament. Inprimis I bequeath my soul to the Almighty God hoping through Jesus Christ to have forgiveness of my sins and my body to be buried in the Church of all Saints. Item. I give and bequeath to little Alice my mistress kitchen maid five shillings, and unto Alice, Mary and Bess Ten shillings a piece. Unto every one of my Fathers Godchildren two shillings, unto Agnes Dawes five pounds and every poor man in Ardingly aforesaid twelve pence. Item. My special will ye that at my burial there be at (the Church of All Saints) penny dole to every poor body that shall be there. And of this my last Will I make my Mother (Margaret (?)) Sole Executrix and to her I give all Goods and Chattels whatsoever. I likewise make Thomas Bourd of Lindfield and my cousin Thomas Culpepper of Balcombe (Thomas Culpeper of Naylands in Balcombe, co. Sussex) oversears of this my last Will and give them Twenty Shillings a piece for their pains hoping that they will aid my mother. By me Richard Culpepper.2,3 |
