Stephens County

County History and Geography

In the Rolling Plains Region of central Texas, Stephens County was formed in 1858 (organized 1876) from Bosque County. Its county seat, Breckinridge, is on US-180, about 90 miles west of Fort Worth. Stephens County is bordered by the counties of Young, Palo Pinto, Eastland, Shackelford and Throckmorton.
