County History and Geography

In the Piney Woods Region of east Texas, Jasper County was formed in 1836 as an original Texas county. Its county seat, Jasper, is on US-96, about 125 miles northeast of Houston. Jasper County is bordered by the counties of Sabine, Newton, Orange, Hardin, Tyler, Angelina and San Augustine.
