Floyd County

County History and Geography

In the Texas High Plains Region of the Panhandle, Floyd County was formed in 1876 (organized in 1890) from Bexar and Young Counties. Its county seat, Floydada, is on US-70, about 100 miles south of Amarillo and 50 miles NW of Lubbock. It is bordered by the counties of Briscoe, Motley, Crosby, Hale and Swisher.
