Calhoun County
County History and Geography
In the Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes Region of Texas,
Calhoun
County was formed in 1846 from Jackson and
Victoria counties. Its county seat, Port Lavaca, is a Gulf port about 120 miles southwest of Houston and 120 miles
southeast of San Antonio. Calhoun
County is bordered by the counties of Matagorda, Jackson,
Victoria, Refugio and
Aransas.
