History
In the Carolina Low
Country, Dorchester County was formed in 1897 from
Berkeley and Colleton
Counties. Its county seat, the town of St. George, is on I-95, about 50
miles northwest of Charleston and 65 miles south of Columbia. Dorchester
County is bordered by the counties of
Orangeburg, Berkeley,
Charleston and
Colleton
