History
In the southeastern region of
New Mexico,
Chaves County was established in 1887 from
Lincoln County. Its county seat,
Roswell, is on US-380, about 175 miles southeast of
Albuquerque. Chaves is bordered by the New Mexico counties of
DeBaca, Roosevelt, Lea, Eddy, Otero and Lincoln.
