Swain County
County History and Geography
In the Blue Ridge Region and the western part of North Carolina, Swain County was formed in
1871
from Jackson and Macon Counties.
Bryson City, its county seat, is on US-74, about 60 miles west of
Asheville. Swain contains most of the North Carolina section of the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park and is bordered by the counties of
Haywood, Jackson,
Macon, Cherokee, and Graham, plus Sevier and
Blount counties in Tennessee.

Swain Memorial Park
Location:
Bryson City, Swain Co., North Carolina. Take Depot Street to Deep Creek
(SR1336) for 1/2 mile, then right and cross the bridge. Take an immediate
left on East Deep Creek Road (SR1339) and to 1/2 mile to Old Deep Creek
Road (SR 1344) to Swain Memorial Park (sign is on the left).
