Henderson County

County History and Geography

In the Blue Ridge Region and the western part of North Carolina, Henderson County was formed in 1838 from Buncombe County. Hendersonville, its county seat, is on I-26, about 100 miles west of Charlotte and 40 miles north of Greenville, South Carolina. Henderson is bordered by the North Carolina counties of Transylvania, Haywood, Buncombe, McDowell, Rutherford and Polk, and the South Carolina county of Greenville.
