Oconee County
History
In the Piedmont Region of Georgia,
Oconee County was formed in 1875 from
Clarke County. Its county seat, Watkinsville, is on
US-129/US-441 about 65 miles east of Atlanta and 10 miles south of Athens. Oconee is bordered by the counties of
Clarke,
Oglethorpe, Greene,
Morgan, Walton and
Barrow.
