Newton County

History
In the Piedmont Region of Georgia,
Newton County was formed in 1821 from
Walton, Jasper and
Henry Counties. Its county seat, Covington, is on
I-20 about 35 miles east of Atlanta and 65 miles north of Macon. Newton is bordered by the counties of
Walton, Morgan,
Jasper, Butts,
Henry and Rockdale.
