Gwinnett County
History
In the Piedmont Region of Georgia
as well as part of the modern Atlanta metro area,
Gwinnett County was formed in 1818 as an original
county from the Creek and Cherokee cessions. Its county seat,
Lawrenceville, is on
US-29 about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta. Gwinnett is bordered by the
counties of Fulton, Forsyth,
Hall, Barrow,
Walton, Rockdale and
DeKalb.
