Fayette County
History
In the Piedmont Region of Georgia
as well as part of the modern Atlanta metro area,
Fayette County was formed in 1821 as an original
county from the Creek cession of that year. Its county seat,
Fayetteville, is on
GA-85 about 25 miles south of Atlanta. Fayette is bordered by the
counties of Fulton, Clayton,
Spalding and Coweta.
