History

Crenshaw County was formed in 1866 from parts of Butler, Coffee, Covington, Pike and Lowndes counties. In the south-central section of the state in the Southeastern Plains Region, Crenshaw is bordered by the counties of Montgomery, Pike, Coffee, Covington, Butler and Lowndes. The county seat was established in Rutledge in 1867 and was moved to Luverne in 1893. Other significant towns include Highland Home, Brantley, Dozier and Glenwood. Luverne is on US-29 about 50 miles south of Montgomery.

Burials

Rhoades Cemetery

Near Kinston, Crenshaw Co., Alabama. Located on the East (right) side of Highway 189 between Kinston and the Perry's Store community, to the north-northeast, perhaps 3 miles from Kinston. It is south of Perry's Store which is  (Perry's Store is at the intersection of Highways 134 and 189) about a mile to a mile and a half, on the East (Left) side of the highway. There is no sign identifying it. The inventory was accomplished by J. D. Bedsole, during the early part of 2005.
