 HistoryCoffee County was
formed in 1841 from Dale County. It is part of the
five-county southeastern corner of Alabama known as the Wiregrass, which is part
of the Southeastern Plains Region. Coffee is bordered by Pike,
Dale, Geneva,
Covington and Crenshaw
counties. The county seat was first at Wellborn, and since 1851 at Elba, which
was once called Bentonville. Other towns and communities include Enterprise,
Kinston, and New Brockton. Elba is on US-84, about 40 miles west of Dothan and
75 miles south of Montgomery.
