.
From Capos Conley 'Chip' Culpepper II, September 2001: "I personally knew Aubrey, and spent a great deal of time with his family for a number of summers on "the farm" near Sheridan, Ark (his sons by his marriage to Martha Jane Obernier were close to me and my brothers in age).
.
Unfortunately, one of the best sources of first-hand information on the colorful character who was Aubrey was my own father, Conley Edward Culpepper who died just over a year ago. Although my father was Aubrey's uncle, Dad was only 4 years older than Aubrey. They literally grew up together in Pine Bluff.
.
As you are probably well aware, Aubrey was more than a bit of a wildman.
.
A couple of examples I recall my dad telling me ....
.
When my father was in basic training for the Army during WWII, Aubrey literally hopped a ride on a freight train just to visit him.
.
When my mom and dad were married just after the War, they were enroute to Pine Bluff for their honeymoon when my dad noticed a lump under a blanket in the back seat of the car. The lump turned out to be Aubrey in hiding. Dad stopped the car and left him on the side of the highway... only to have him show up again later at the hotel to serenade the honeymooners through the window!"

Mr. Culpepper was born October 6, 1932 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to John Harry and Wilma Eunice “Jane” Stuckey Culpepper, the youngest of five brothers. He attended Pine Bluff High School, going on to obtain his G.E.D. while serving the Navy during the Korean War as a Seaman, Commisaryman Striker (1950-1954) , where he also enjoyed boxing and basketball. He ultimately attended Henderson State University’s Teachers College in Arkadelphia becoming a certified dental laboratory technician, opening his own dental laboratories in both Texas and Arkansas. Obituary*10 Oct 2013 Mary Ethel Cummings Culpepper, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, was born September 22, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of the late D.B. Cummings and the late Gladys O’Kelley Cummings Parker.
Mrs. Culpepper went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at NPMC at the age of 78.
She was an active church member throughout much of her adult life. She loved God, family and country. She was active in the grassroots political movement and a staunch member of the Republican Party. Her home was always open to friends and family. Mary worked as a nurse until her retirement, after finishing her nursing training at the top of her class. This she accomplished while taking care of a home and three preschool children without any outside help. Mary enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, shopping, bird-watching and visiting with friends and family. One thing Mary didn’t care for was cooking. Anytime there was a gathering, she would always volunteer her sister, Joyce, to cook. She certainly didn’t know how to fry cabbage.

She was extremely proud of her ten grandchildren, Elijah Culpepper, Leah Culpepper Wall, Micah Culpepper, Ben Fennen, Regan Fennen Lemons, Aubrey McCall, Hannah Nelson, Rachel Nelson, Nathan Nelson and Noah Nelson. Mary loved seeing her nine great-grandchildren; Halie, Seth, Kade, Aden, Rosabella, Genevieve, Moses and Eden.
Funeral services will be Saturday October 12, 2013 at 2:30 P.M. at Center Grove United Methodist Church in Sheridan. Burial will follow at Center Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. also on Saturday. Pallbearers will be: Donald Culpepper, Elijah Culpepper, Ben Fennen, Ben Wall, Wesley Cummings and Larry Culpepper. Honorary pallbearers include Clifton Parker and Sam Hassen.1

Biography* Obituary:
Harry James Culpepper, 59, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2006, after a courageous and hard fought four-year battle against colon cancer.
He was born November 18, 1946 in Fort Smith to Versel and Frances Culpepper. Prior to his diagnosis of cancer, he was an avid runner and participated each year in the Timberfest 5k in Sheridan. Harry's grade school and high school education was received in Pine Bluff, Houston, and Sheridan, and he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1965. He was in the army from 1967 to 1969 and served part of that time in Germany. He graduated from Henderson State in Arkadelphia. He worked in the mortgage loan business in Houston and El Paso, TX and then started his own home building business in El Paso. After returning to Arkansas, after his grandfather Harry Culpepper's death, Harry finished out his grandfather's term on the Quorum Court. He also worked for the Pine Bluff Arsenal and the Sheridan School District. He loved to work with and teach children in the classroom as a substitute teacher. He also was a Mason and a Gideon.
He is preceded in death by both parents and by one step-granddaughter, Katie Rose McIlwain.
Harry was blessed to have a loving and caring family which included his wife, Cheryl Sue Culpepper of the home; a precious daughter, Virginia Allen, of Springfield, MO; stepson, Scott McIllwain and wife A Theresa, and precious granddaughter, Sammie McIllwain, of Port Carbon, PA; brothers: Larry Culpepper and wife Ruth Ann of Sheridan, Donald Culpepper and wife Mollie of Sheridan, Kenneth Culpepper and wife Cindy of Tyler, Texas, Christopher Culpepper of Little Rock; half-brother Cody Culpepper of Houston, TX; and half-sister Laura Jane Owens and husband Mike of Katy, TX, and special nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews in both Sheridan and Texas.
Harry loved his God; his family; his friends, including special friends, Dan and Pam Freeman and their daughters; his garden, especially his muscadines; all birds which came to his feeders, and especially the hummingbirds. Harry also loved to travel and in June of this year, in spite of problems he was having with the cancer, because they had not seen where he lived in El Paso and had not been to the Grand Canyon, he wanted to be the one to show it to them, he took his wife, his granddaughter and her parents on a driving trip to the Grand Canyon via El Paso, Old Mexico, Carlsbad, Sandia Peak, White Sands, etc. and returning through Oklahoma and Springfield, Mo., to visit his daughter Virginia.
Visitation and the funeral service will both be Sunday, January 8, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Sheridan, with burial in the Center Grove Cemetery. The visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Harry loved this church family and has been a hardworking, involved member for many years. The family will be at home at 257 Grant 270040, Sheridan, Arkansas. A special thanks from the family to Dr. Larry Mendelsohn and his staff, Dr. John Brizzalaro and his staff, Dr. John Tedford and his staff, the Baptist Home Health and Hospice. Memorials may be made to the Gideons, the Sheridan First Baptist Church.2
