Biography* | | Lillian Elizabeth Guenther was the daughter of Albert John and Janet Elizabeth (Williams) Guenther. She was born in Pine Bluff, AR and this is where she was noted with her parents in 1920 census records. The family then moved to Los Angeles, CA where Lillian attended Harter School for Girls and Orton School for Girls.5 She also began modeling and acting. On stage, she portrayed the young actress Anna Q. Nilsson in Inez of Hollywood.5 During the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics Lillian was chosen to represent Arkansas as a junior hostess.5
Her sultry blonde good looks made her a natural for films. As an actress, she used the name Janet Chandler. Her film credits included, among others, the 1932 film The Golden West with George O'Brien, 5 and the 1934 films House of Danger and Cowboy Holiday with Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams in which she played Ruth Hopkins.6 Her 1935 films included Now or Never with Richard Talmadge in which she played Audrey Ferry, Cyclone of the Saddle with Rex Lease in which she played Eve, Drunkard in which she played Mary Middleton and Rough Riding Ranger in which she played Dorothy Francis.6
After suffering an accident while making a film, Lillian retired from the business and married New York investment broker, George E. Barrett.6 While in New York, Lillian also did radio shows.6 After divorcing George Barrett, Lillian returned to Hollywood and graduated from UCLA in 1952.6 She was also briefly married to playwright Joseph A. Kramm.6
Lillian died in 1994 at the age of 82. |
