A 1942 graduate of Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, she was married on June 21, 1943 to Trumie Culpepper Elliott of Barnesville, Georgia. They were blessed to have celebrated sixty years together before his death in 2004. Their home was a sanctuary of Christian living and gracious Southern hospitality.
Martha was an indefatigable teacher. For many years second graders at Gordon Grammar School in Barnesville flourished under her tutelage. She retired as a reading specialist and thereafter coached and tutored many a struggling student and even taught English as a second language as long as she was able.
The First Baptist Church of Barnesville was the home of her faith for seventy years. There her talents as a singer, choir member, and pianist as well as teacher and young women's leader were generously offered to God and for the good of her church.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Parker Parrish and a sister, Julia Parrish Simms
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Trumie Culpepper Elliott, Jr. of Springfield, Kentucky and Henry Nall Elliott and his wife, Maetha of Kennesaw, Georgia.
