He had previously lived in Abernathy. He was a member of Church of Christ in Hale Center and was a lifelong farmer until retiring in 1963.

He is survived by a son, Wayne Ray and his wife Nancy of Hale Center; a brother, Claude Ray of Hart; two grandchildren, Lisa Bartley and Roger Ray, both of Plainview; four step-grandchildren, Jeanna Barnes of Plainview, Jon Underwood of Odessa, Nicole Boring of Hallsville, and Paul Underwood of San Angelo; and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Ray.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Area Community Hospice, 3109 Olton Rd. Ste. C, Plainview, TX 79072.
