Thomas Ivy1
Male, #9002, (circa 1570 - )
Family | Lettice Culpeper |
| "The Ivey Family in the United States, by George Franks Ivey (Southern Publishing Co., 1941) provides an ancestry for this Thomas Ivey (referring to a supposed son of Thomas Ivey and Lettice Culpepper) which appears to be purely speculative. For instance, it provides no evidence of the connection to his alleged parents, Thomas Ivey and Lettice Culpepper. As best I can determine there is no evidence that this couple had a son named Thomas, much less that he was the same person who immigrated to Virginia... In fact, there is evidence that Thomas Ivey’s mother was named Jane."2 |

John Culpeper of Barbados
Male, #9006, (1684 - before 26 Mar 1720)
Name-AltSpell | | This surname is sometimes spelled Culpepper of Barbados. |
Birth* | 1684 | John was born at Barbados in 1684. |
Marriage* | before 1708 | He married Millicent Quintyn of Barbados at Barbados before 1708. |
Birth of Son | circa 1708 | His son Alleyne Culpeper of Barbados was born circa 1708 at Barbados. |
Birth of Son | after 1708 | His son John Culpeper of Barbados was born after 1708 at Barbados. |
Baptism | 19 May 1711 | He was baptized at Saint Philip, Barbados, on 19 May 1711.1,2 |
Birth of Son | circa 1714 | His son Thomas Culpeper of Barbados was born circa 1714 at Saint John, Barbados. |
Census* | 1715 | A census listed John as head of household at Saint John, Barbados, in 1715. |
Death* | before 26 Mar 1720 | He died at Barbados before 26 Mar 1720. |
Probate* | 26 Mar 1720 | Probate action was taken on John's estate on 26 Mar 1720 at Saint John, Barbados. |
Biography* | | In his father's will of 22 Oct 1703, John appears to be under age 23. In addition to children listed, there was an additional daughter, of John and Millicent, name unknown. On 19 May 1711, three Culpepers, presumably all adult as they were not being presented by a parent, were baptized. They were John Culpeper, age 23, William Culpeper, age __ and Mary Culpepper. On the same day, in the next entry in the parish register, is recorded the baptism of Elizabeth Culpeper, daughter of Alleyne. Since there was an Alleyne (maried to Elizabeth), a John, a William and a Mary who were siblings, and children of Alleyne Culpeper and Mary Hedges, it is a reasonable asumption that the otherwise unidentified John Culpeper baptized on this date is John, son of Alleyne and Mary. Thus, John was probably born in 1687 or 1688, since he was 23 at the time of his baptism. In his will dated 23 Dec 1717 in St. John and proved 26 Mar 1720, John Culpeper named: my wife Millicent Culpeper; sons Alleyne Culpeper at 21 and Thomas Culpeper; brother Alleyne Culpeper, Thomas Quintyne Esq, William Culpeper, and Edward Quintyne Gent as guardians of his sons to age 21. |

On 19 May 1711, three Culpepers, presumably all adult as they were not being presented by a parent, were baptized. They were John Culpeper, age 23, William Culpeper, age __ and Mary Culpepper. Dr. William Culpeper of Barbados1
Male, #9010, (say 1689 - )
DNA* | | From DNA and genealogical evidence we conclude that Dr. William Culpeper of Barbados is a member of the International branch whose most recent common ancestor is either William Culpeper of Hunton and Wigsell, or the Rev. William Culpeper of Barbados. |
Name-AltSpell | | This surname is sometimes spelled Culpepper. |
Birth* | say 1689 | William was born at Barbados say 1689. |
Birth of Son | before Feb 1711 | His son William Culpeper of Barbados was born before Feb 1711 at Saint Philip, Barbados. |
Baptism | 19 May 1711 | He was baptized at Saint Philip, Barbados, on 19 May 1711.2,3 |
Marriage* | 20 May 1711 | He married Rebecca Malloney of Barbados at Saint Philip, Barbados, on 20 May 1711.4,3 |
Census* | 1715 | A census listed William as head of household at Barbados in 1715. |
Birth of Son | after 1715 | His son Francis Culpeper of Barbados was born after 1715 at Barbados. |
Birth of Son | say 1728 | His son Alleyne Culpeper of Barbados was born say 1728. |
Will* | 1771 | He made a will in 1771.1 |
Death* | | He died at Barbados. |
Biography* | | In his father's will of 22 Oct 1703, William appears to under age 23. Since there was an Alleyne (maried to Elizabeth), a John, a William and a Mary who were siblings, and children of Alleyne Culpeper and Mary Hedges, it is a reasonable asumption that the otherwise unidentified William Culpeper baptized on this date is William, son of Alleyne and Mary. On 23 Dec 1717 in St. John, in a will by John Culpeper, William (John's brother) was named as one of the guardians of John's minor children. While the Culpeper of Barbados pedigree indicated that William had a will dated 1771, this has not been proved. Since William would heen been about 90 at that time, it seems highly unlikely that this date is accurate. Perhaps the will was for another William. |
