Obituary* | 9 Apr 2015 | Linda Tice Culpepper, 71, of Pine Bluff, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Davis Life Care Center. Born November 17, 1943, in Pine Bluff; she was a daughter of Ellen Parnell Smith and the late Charles Lee Smith, and the late Andrew Tice, of Rison. She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Watson Chapel High School in 1963. She also attended classes at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. In 1977, she married Dan Culpepper in Memphis, Tennessee. They spent the next twenty-five years together, until his death in 2003. Mrs. Culpepper had worked as an Insurance Claim Administrator for several years, before her retirement. Her passion in life was quilting and was lovingly referred to at a quilt artist, this was the accomplishment she was most proud. She resided at The Gardens Assisted Living on Hazel in Pine Bluff, and participated in many activities, including holding quilting classes for other residents. She was also a faithful member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Mrs. Culpepper fought a courageous and valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis for twenty-eight years until she passed from this life. Her survivors include her son, Daniel Andrew Culpepper, and his wife, Christine, of Denver Colorado; her grandchild, Piper Morgan Culpepper, of Denver, Colorado; her mother, Ellen Smith, of Capitola, California; her brother, Charles Smith, of Pine Bluff and her sister, Wanda Kocina, of Capitola, California. She was a favorite and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews: Brianna Perdue, Cody Smith, Stephanie Carlisle, Keri Bolain, Raley Dearman, Alexandria Bolian, and the late Christopher Powell. A Memorial Service to honor her life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 11, at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Wisconsin Street in Pine Bluff. The family was assisted by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. In honor of Linda's favorite color, please wear a purple accessory (tie, scarf, jewelry, etc.) to the memorial service... |

As a U.S. Navy veteran, he also served on the Virginia Beach Auxiliary Police Department, the Kempsville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 57. He was retired from C & P Telephone. He is survived by his wife, Nora Culpepper; his son, Richard Culpepper; his daughter, Patricia Downer; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad. Mr. Culpepper was born in Hickory, Va., and was the son of the late Quinton and Ethel Chapman Culpepper . He was predeceased by two brothers, Malvern Culpepper and Wilbur Culpepper. Mr. Culpepper had served as a senior engineer of the Underwater Explosion Research Division of Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 31 years until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church in Norfolk where he was a church elder for over 40 years, a Sunday school superintendent and a choir member. He was also a counselor for CBN's 700 Club. He was a kind and gentle husband and father. He will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. Mr. Culpepper is survived by his two daughters, Joan Buchholtz and her husband, Leroy "Buck," of Rawlins, Wyo., and Janet Berry and her husband, William "Bill," of Chesapeake; one sister, Margaret Gibilaro of Newport News; one brother, the Rev. Horace A. Culpepper of Chesapeake; his grandson, John Edward Kleven; and his great- granddaughter, Nicole Ray Kleven. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Coleman Place Presbyterian Church, 1513 E. Sewells Point Road, Norfolk, with Chaplain Tony Dean officiating. Interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, Great Bridge, is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at 632 Corapeake Drive, Chesapeake. Obituary* | 25 Nov 2006 | CHESAPEAKE - The Rev. Horace A. Culpepper, 85, went to be with the Lord Nov. 23, 2006. He was born May 14, 1921, in Norfolk to the late Quinton and Ethel Culpepper. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After serving in the military, he became the owner of the Princess Anne Boarding Kennel, served as clerk of the Virginia Beach Municipal Court, sold and invested in real estate with his son and Dave Miller Realty, and owned the Virginia Beach fishing pier. In 1966 he began a 30-year pastoral career with Calvary Baptist in Virginia Beach. Following his retirement, he served as pastor at Cool Spring Baptist Church in Eure, N.C., and interim minister in several other churches. Never one to stand still too long, Horace loved to work in his garden but his deepest love was his beloved family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Susie M. Culpepper of Chesapeake; daughter, Helen Sue Carlton and husband Kenneth of Norfolk; son, Herbert A. Culpepper and wife Carolyn of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Kim Cox and husband Jeff, Casey Carlton and wife Kim, Todd Carlton and wife Kelly, Jennifer Maquire and husband Kurt, Herbert A. Culpepper Jr. and wife Catherine and Michael A. Culpepper and wife Erin; 10 great- grandchildren; a sister; and other loving relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted by Dr. Kelly Burris at 11 a.m. Monday in Kempsville Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.

Mary was a member of the Rock Church in Newport News and attended Denbigh World Outreach Worship Center. She volunteered at Mary Immaculate Hospital and was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve. Survivors include, two daughters, Cindy E. Massey, Jane E. Nosonchuk both of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Lloyd E. Gibilaro (Alice ) of Newport News; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.3 |
