Biography* | Joshua lived in Scituate where I.R. Jacobs, Esq., now [in 1853] resides, having built that house. He was an early proprietor of the Jacobs Mills, with his brother Dr. Joseph, and was an extensive landholder.3 Joshua resided at Assinippi in the old Jacob’s homestead, east of the mill which his father had built for his sons. When the General Court passed an Act of Incorporation for the new town of Hanover, ‘David Jacob’s saw mill dam’ was mentioned in it. Both grist and sawmills were erected, the grist mill on the westerly, and the sawmill on the easterly flume. The grist mill was abandoned many year ago [before 1936], but the old Jacobs sawmill stood until 4 Jul 1920 wih it was burned. Jacob’s Mill Pond, with its island near the eastern shore, is the most beautiful and picturesque spot in Assinippi [according to Briggs].4 |
