Obituary*14 Sep 2017 FRIERSON, Doris Isobel Doris Isobel Frierson of Austin passed away, September 9, 2017, at the age of 89. She was born on August 5, 1928, in Bateman, Texas to Nettie Jewel Cox and Auther Lester Culpepper. After graduating from Austin High School, she and her family moved to Corpus Christi, but not before meeting the love of her life. She and Hoit D. Frierson were married in Corpus Christi on June 12, 1948. To this union were born two sons, Hoit K. and Joel. Since the early '60s, Doris has been a long-time member of the Zilker Garden Club having held various positions in the organization. For many years, she and her husband made Bethel Assembly of God their home church. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and grandmother and loved her family dearly. Even during difficult times and trials in her life, she always placed her faith, trust in Jesus Christ, and depended upon His faithfulness. I Corinthians 13:4,5 (Amp) describes Doris quite well: "Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking." This was Doris, always putting others before herself and striving to be pleasing to the Lord. What a legacy and example she has left for those to follow. Her nephews, Auther Culpepper, will be officiating the service and Mark Godfrey will be conducting the graveside service. Pallbearers will be David Culpepper, Stephen Godfrey, Mark Godfrey, Kevin Oldham, Dan Zuniga and Doug Bartlow. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Joel Frierson. Survivors include her son, Hoit K. Frierson and wife Paula; two grandchildren, Hoit Aaron Frierson and wife Heather, Marah Lynn Zuniga and husband Dan; five great-grandchildren, Kaden, Mackenzie, Hadley, Reese, and Hope, all of Austin; a sister, Anne Godfrey and husband Harold of Austin; and one brother, Lester Culpepper and wife Elaine of Sinton. We would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Brookdale Beckett Meadows Memory Care. Visitation will be on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 16, 11:00 AM, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bateman Cemetery, Red Rock, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gideon's International....9

Powell b 1848, Pina Powell b 1850, and Sam Powell b 1853. The graves of Larkin and Nancy have not been located in Laurens County. Larkin's second wife was Matilda Culpepper. Services for Mr. Quimby will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 9 at a graveside service at the May Cemetery in Brown County, Texas. Interment will follow under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Born April 2, 1928 in Waco, Texas to Albert James Quimby and Janie Pearl Culpepper Quimby, Sonny grew up in and around Lockhart, Texas. In 1950 he married Mamie Lois Nelson, of May, Texas and they made their first home in Abilene; later they lived in numerous states and international locations including Tripoli, Libya; Great Yarmouth and London, England, Lafayette, Louisiana and returned to Abilene in 1978.

Sonny is survived by his sons Larry Quimby and wife Elena of Moscow, Russia, Jim Quimby and wife Evany of Jonestown, Texas and daughter Marcel (‘Marci’) Quimby of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Stephanie, Scott and David Quimby of The Woodlands, Texas; brother James Terrell and wife Jeanie, of Tennessee Colony, Texas, sister-in-law Gail Crain of Baytown, Texas and brother-in-law John Wayne Nelson and wife Carol of May, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mamie Lois Quimby; sister-in-law Willodean Quimby Culpepper and Betty Quimby Lawrence.

His passions in life was his work in the oil industry where he spent his career - beginning by working on oil wells in the Texas Valley in the 1940s, and later for Halliburton, Continental Oil Company and as president of Pickett Oil Company in Abilene, Texas. Considered by many as a 'character', he had a dry sense of humour, enjoyed a good story, had a combination of loving personality and tough side and had a soft side for children, dogs, cats, his cattle and other animals. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to Visiting Angels, and especially Mary, Carrie, Angel and Cat - who took such wonderful care of him over the last year; and to IntegraCare Hospice of Abilene who provided loving support for him in his last weeks.

Donations, if desired, can be made to the American Cancer Society or International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.4
