The following info was sent to me after Patsy and I talked on the phone. She gave me permission to forward this to the list. I do not have anything on this man....
.
[From Patsy:] I really enjoyed talking to you tonight. Here is all the information that I have on John O'Rear.... His tombstone only has John on it. He was born March 17, 1823 and died Feb. 5, 1917 in Butts County, Jackson, GA. My grandmother, Kathryn Mae O'Rear, was born in Monroe County so he may have come to Butts County from Monroe County. She was born in 1869 so he probably did not come to Butts County until after that. He married Mary S. Moore, (b. Dec. 22, 1832, d. Oct. 1, 1898) on March 25, 1851.
.
He was Clerk of Superior Court in Butts Co. from Jan. 8, 1895 to 1896. He was Treasurer of Butts Co. from Jan. 5, 1889 to 1892. He
owned a general store in Jackson according to the Business Directory in Jackson, Butts County....
.
He was in the Civil War in Company C, 30th Regiment. Also
Company G, Third Georgia Reserves. His picture is on the group
of old Confederate Veterans in the Museum in Jackson.
.
Also, I have the names of his children.... There Kitty (Kathryn), Annie, Ella, Dag (I don't know what her real name was), Sally, Lula, Hattie, Will, and Dan. Daddy was named for his Uncle Dan.

According to the late Ed. C. O'Rear's records, this John O'Rear was the son of William and Margaret Brown (McCullum) O'Rear (s/o Daniel & Susan (Gooch) O'Rear). The information that Ed had was that John was born in 1829 but I think this is the same person and either the 1829 or 1823 is a mis-reading of something. Also Ed's information showed John as a farmer (not unusual about that time). Ed did not have John's wife, but did list the children:
Sarah Jane [Sallie] m. Tom Bryant
Mary Ella [Ella] (b. 1859) m. Tom Barnett
Kittie (b. 1860) m. John Robert Thurston
Lula m. Arl Crews
Maggie (b. 1871) m. John Guthrie
Annie m. Earnest Faulkner
Hattie (b. 1878) m. Dr. Wilson J. Smith
William H. [Henry?] (b. 1852) m. Martha Ann Tate
John Daniel (b. 4 Feb 1857) m. Wesley Elizabeth Culpepper
James F. [Jim] not married.

Not sure about the difference in born years for Kittie although it may be due someone mis-reading the zero for nine or vice versa. The spellings above are as they were in Ed's records -- although I'm not sure if it is Thurston or Thruston.... Also Arl Crews is Oliver Jones Crews.
