Van Zandt County

County History and Geography

In the Oakwoods and Prairies Region of east Texas, Van Zandt County was formed in 1848 from Henderson County. Its county seat, Canton, is on I-20, about 50 miles east of Dallas. Van Zandt is bordered by the counties of Hunt, Rains, Smith, Henderson and Kaufman.
