County History and Geography
In the Oakwoods and Prairies Region of central Texas, Madison County was formed in 1853
from Grimes, Walker and Leon Counties.
Its county
seat, Madisonville, is on I-45 about 140 miles south of Dallas and 90 miles north of
Houston. Madison County is bordered by the counties of Grimes,
Brazos, Leon,
Houston and
Walker.
