County History and Geography
In the Big Bend
Region and at the westernmost tip of Texas,
El Paso
County was formed in 1850 from Bexar Territory. Its county seat,
El Paso,
is on I-10 about 230 miles south of Albuquerque, NM and 500 miles west of San
Antonio. El Paso is bordered
by the Texas county of Hudspeth, the New Mexico counties of
Dona Ana and Otero,
and the Mexican state of Chihuahua.
