Calhoun County
History
In the middle South
Carolina part of the Coastal Plains region, Calhoun County was formed in
1908 from Lexington and
Orangeburg Counties. Its county seat, the town
of St. Matthews, is on US-176, about 80 miles northwest of Charleston
and 30 miles southeast of Columbia. Calhoun County is bordered by the
counties of Richland, Clarendon,
Orangeburg and Lexington.
