History

In the Great Plains Country of southwestern Oklahoma, Beckham County was formed in 1907 from Roger Mills and Greer Counties. Its county seat, Sayre, is on I-40 about 125 miles west of Oklahoma City. Beckham is bordered by the Oklahoma counties of Roger Mills, Custer, Washita, Kiowa, Greer and Harmon; and by the Texas counties of Wheeler and Collingsworth.

Census Records

A special thanks to Pat Roberts for transcribing all of our Oklahoma Census records.

Oklahoma was opened to white settlers with the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. The earliest extant census for Oklahoma Territory is for 1900, and Oklahoma Territory became a state in 1907. No Culpeppers have been found in any Beckham County censuses prior to 1910.
