Beckham County
History
In the Great Plains
Country of southwestern Oklahoma,
Beckham County was formed in 1907 from Roger Mills
and Greer Counties. Its county seat,
Sayre, is on
I-40 about 125 miles west of Oklahoma City. Beckham is bordered by the Oklahoma counties of
Roger Mills, Custer, Washita, Kiowa,
Greer and Harmon; and by the Texas counties of
Wheeler and Collingsworth.

Census Records
A special

Oklahoma was
opened to white settlers with the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889. The
earliest extant census for Oklahoma Territory is for 1900, and Oklahoma
Territory became a state in 1907. No Culpeppers
have been found in any Beckham County censuses prior to 1910.
