Craven County

County History and Geography

In the Coastal Plain of eastern North Carolina, Craven County was formed in 1705 from the Archdale Precinct of old Bath County. New Bern, its county seat, is on US-17 & US-70, about 110 miles southeast of Raleigh. Craven is bordered by the counties of Beaufort, Pamlico, Carteret, Jones, Lenoir and Pitt.
