North Carolina Culpepper Archives
Catawba County
County History and Geography
In the Piedmont Region and the west central part of North Carolina, Catawba County was formed in
1842
from Lincoln County. Newton, its county seat, is on I-40, about 40 miles
northwest of Charlotte and 170 miles west of
Raleigh. Catawba is bordered by the counties of
Iredell, Lincoln, Burke, Caldwell and Alexander.
