History

In the Cajun region of southern Louisiana, Lafayette Parish was formed in 1823 from St. Martin Parish. Its parish seat, Lafayette, is on I-10 about 60 miles west of Baton Rouge. Lafayette Parish is bordered by the parishes of St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia, Vermillion and Acadia.
