Quitman County
History
In the Upper
Coastal Plains Region of Georgia,
Quitman County was formed in
1858 from the southwestern corner of Stewart County
and the northwestern corner of Randolph County. Its county seat,
Georgetown, is on
the Chattahoochee River about 150 miles SSW of Atlanta and 45 miles SSW of Columbus. Quitman is bordered by the
Georgia counties of Stewart,
Randolph and Clay, and the Alabama county of
Barbour.
