In the Sacramento
Valley of northern California, Sacramento County
was formed in 1850 as an original California County. Its county seat and state
capital, Sacramento, is on I-80, about 80 miles northeast of San Francisco.
Sacramento County is bordered by the counties of Sutter,
Placer, El Dorado, Amador, San
Joaquin, Contra Costa,
Solano and Yolo.
