Perry County
History
Perry County was
created in 1819 from Indian lands. It is located in the west-central part of the
state, in the Black Belt part of the Southeastern Plains Region. Perry is
bordered by the counties of Bibb, Chilton,
Dallas, Marengo and
Hale. Its county
seat is Marion. Notable towns include Marion, Uniontown, Heiberger, Perryville
and Sprott. Marion is about 70 miles WNW of Montgomery and 45 miles SSE of
Tuscaloosa.
